Basic photo editing tasks

This article shows examples of some basic photo editing tasks, including zooming, cropping, file size reduction ,removing a background, and changing the contrast on part of a picture.

Zoom in and crop part of the picture

Note that the cropping can be done in various shapes.

This cropping can be done to a random aspect ratio, or it can be set up for specific photo sizes, like 5x7, 3x5, 4x6, 8x10, etc.

File size reduction so a file can be put on the web

Pull the main image out and placing it on a different background

Change brightness and contrast for the whole picture or part of a picture

For this picture, only the girl's face was changed.

Darth Vader and Anna with washed out face Darth Vader and Anna: Anna's face and neck was selected and the brightness level was reduced and contrast increased a bit so that her face could be seen.
     

Other tasks include:

  • Red eye removal for humans
  • Blue eye removal for pets
  • Altering a picture, like removing a cable from a podium
